FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As a part of the third annual Basketball without Borders (BWB) Asia Camp held this year in Shanghai, China, BWB held an event to encourage friendship and exchange between NBA basketball players and AIDS-affected children from all over China. On July 8th, Breaking down Stigmas: HIV/AIDS will not affect our Friendship brought players such as Houston Rockets’ Yao Ming and NBA Legend Scottie Pippen together with children to play basketball, exchange gifts, and learn about one another’s lives. Along with the beloved actress Joan Chen moderating Sunday’s event, CAMP’s Director Ruby Yang and Producer Thomas Lennon participated as VIP guests. Gao Jun and Nan Nan, two children featured in Yang and Lennon’s Oscar-winning film, The Blood of Yingzhou District, took part in the festivities as well. The film was viewed the previous evening by NBA players, coaches and family members participating in the camp as a way to learn more about children affected by AIDS in China. Other organizations involved in the weekend’s events were The Fuyang AIDS Orphan Salvation Association (AOS), The AIDS Relief Fund for China, The Chi Heng Foundation and The China AIDS Orphan Fund.
